Bowen Family Systems Theory & Therapy: An Introduction to a Different Way of Thinking about Psychotherapy

Bowen Family Systems Theory views the family as an emotional unit and uses systems thinking to describe the complex interactions in the unit. It is the nature of a family that its members are intensely connected emotionally, for better or for worse!

This program will present the eight interlocking concepts of Bowen Theory and will provide opportunities for participants to apply the theory to real-life cases.

The program will also present the historical context of Dr. Murray Bowen’s research and clinical work and how he developed his theory and its concepts.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Place Bowen Theory & Therapy in its historical developmental context.
  • Identify the eight interlocking concepts of Bowen Theory.
  • Identify how Bowen Theory translates directly into the practice of Bowen Therapy.
  • Apply the eight interlocking concepts of Bowen Theory to real-life cases, personal and professional.

Bowen Theory & Therapy, An Introduction to a Different Way of Thinking About Psychotherapy will be offered on Friday, June 1 (5-9p), and Saturday, June 2 (10a-5p) 2018, at WholeHeart Counseling Services, 212 NE 80th Ave., Portland, OR, 97213. (Light meals will be provided Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.)

The cost for this program is $175, and is NBCC-approved for 10 NBCC CEs. For more information or to register, call MaryJane Wilt, LPC, at 971.242.9322 or email her at tinyblip@comcast.net. ADD/ADHD Lifestyle and Relationship Workshop

This group is for anyone who has, knows someone who has or loves someone who has ADD/HD. It’s about discovering the best possible life and finding out what that means for you. The workshop is a round-table discussion of all things ADD/HD and how it affects you or your family. We have a group specifically for ADD/HD spouses too! We know it creates a lot of relationship struggles as the two are often moving at different speeds or different directions. So we’re here to help with tips and tools to help keep relationship, as well as life, on track.

Will you flourish, flounder or fail? Every person brings important experiences and life lessons to the group. We’ve all had struggles, trials and tribulations, and victories! We want to hear what has worked for you, the things you’ve tried, and the things that have fizzled like a firecracker in the rain. We’ve all had those! Lets get together and talk about the things that make us successful in love, life and work. You will come away with new ideas, new ways of doing things, and new belief in yourself. Best of all, you’re not alone because we are a community of supporting and affirming people just like you. Join us!

Because everyone has a different style when it comes to learning and sharing, we will make use of several venues. We will have group room meetups, coffee shop meetups, “walk in the woods” meetups and more. No sports bars or multimedia distractions! Just environments where we can focus and hear each other.

We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, 7:15-8:30p. Hope to see you there!
